A War Merit Cross First Class with Swords by Wilhelm Deumer

A Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwerter; maltese cross in silvered tombak; the obverse with crossed swords between the arms of the cross, with a circular raised border of oak leaves on the obverse and a raised mobile swastika in the center; the reverse maker marked “L/11” for “Wilhelm Deumer, Lüdenscheid” but otherwise left plain, but with a vertical tapered pinback, barrel hinge, and a slightly flattened wire catch; measuring 47.45 mm x 47.83 mm; weighing 19.7 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper with a textured black leather exterior, and with an outlined of a War Merit Cross First Class with Swords embossed to the exterior of the lid; the interior lid lined with a recessed medal bed; intact interior fabric hinge cover; exterior paper hinge completely severed; measuring 68 mm x 68 mm; attractive patina on the cross, in very fine condition, with the original box of issue, in fine condition.
