Finely textured, black wool upper, bordered by a red and white checkered pattern in the wool which encompasses it, with a 10 mm wide black nylon border along the open end, a 70 mm x 85 mm black rayon rosette on the left side, topped by a large red toorie, dual black rayon ribbons tied in a bow at the rear, inside is lined in black cotton, stamped in white ink with the size "6 5/8", the "B.J. & W. HOOD & CO. KILMARNOCK" maker mark and a British Broad Arrow production mark in the dome, stamped in yellow and white inks "W D" above "922" on the right sidewall, the cap measuring 240 mm in diameter. The cap exhibits a 60 mm long slice in the black wool exterior which has penetrated the black cotton lining, both sides having been repaired with black threading, the cap without mothing, very fine.
