Fan in paper with ten raised ribs, two large sticks, one on either end, forming the frame, with seven wooden sticks in between, all nine wooden sticks pinned together at the base, the top edge of the fan trimmed in gold-coloured ink, a 1st Punjab Regiment insignia outlined in pencil and finished in yellow ink in the centre, inscribed "5TH BATTALION / TOKYO 21 DEC 1946 / 24 JULY '47" in yellow, teal and black inks below the insignia, flanked by ten signatures in black ink, five of which are dated July 27, 1947, measuring 28 mm x 255 mm when closed and 255 mm x 430 mm when fully extended, extremely fine.
Footnote: The 1st Punjab Regiment was a regiment of the British Indian Army from 1922 to 1947. It was transferred to the Pakistan Army on independence in 1947, and amalgamated with the 14th, 15th and 16th Punjab Regiments in 1956, to form the Punjab Regiment.
