A Second War Croatian Naval Legion Badge; Type II

Croatia: Silvered tombac with red and white enamels, unmarked, 37.7 mm x 50 mm, vertical pinback, intact enamels, scattered silvering wear, near extremely fine.

 

Footnote: This badge was introduced in 1942 and was worn by the members of Croatian Naval Legion. The CNL was involved in the Eastern (Russian) front as part of the German Naval group 'Unterseebootjagerflotille 23' at the Black Sea during 1942-1943. The Legion’s commander was Andro Vrkljan, and duties of the Legion included escort, minesweeping and alike. The badge was awarded after two months of active service.
