A Rare People's Republic of Bulgaria Mother Heroine Medal in Gold

Bulgaria (People's Republic): 14K Gold, weighing 20.1 grams, inclusive of its star and hanger, marked "WJ" on the edge on the lower right star point, 32 mm x 34 mm, suspended from a 12.5 mm x 28 mm hanger with pinback, inscribed "МАЙКА ГЕРОИНЯ" on the hanger, very light contact, near extremely fine.

 

Footnote: The Mother Heroine Medal is the sixth of ten honourary titles in the award system of the People's Republic of Bulgaria. It was established by a decree of the Presidium of the First National Assembly on December 13, 1950, and until June 9, 1952, it was named Hero of Maternal Glory. The change of the original name was dictated by the establishment of the three-degree Mother's Glory Order, which has a different status of the honourary title.
