A textbook example of a well preserved second war German manufactured Iron Cross 1914 First Class “Eisernes Kreuz 1914 1. Klasse”; white metal cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened brass core (non-magnetic) within a white metal ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central “W” with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and with a raised Prussian crown on the upper arm; the reverse plain, with a sheet metal hinge, a vertical slender banjo style pinback, and a round wire catch ; measuring 43.18 mm x 43.49 mm; weighing 13.8 grams. Accompanied by its original case of issue; constructed of heavy pressed paper with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; with the outline of an Iron Cross First Class embossed in silver on the outside lid; lined interior lid; functional spring catch with stud release; intact but moderately severed interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 63 mm x 63 mm; near mint condition.
