Silver frame, with iron core, magnetic, vaulted, maker marked "K.M.ST." (Königliche Muenzamt Stuttgart, Stuttgart) and marked "D.R.G.M." (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster = patented) on the reverse, marked "800" (silver) on the pin, 43.8 mm, unusual sliding catch ("mousetrap") mechanism, extremely high quality, better than extremely fine. 

 
Footnote: This Iron Cross was a private purchase award. Königliche Muenzamt Stuttgart of Stuttgart only began supplying Iron Crosses in 1917; the "800" silver content was only used to manufacture Iron Crosses during the period 1917-1918. (C:171)
