Offered is a fine example of a Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross 1939 (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) by a well known and desirable maker. This Knight’s Cross features a regulation silver frame in the shape of a cross pattée that is marked “L/12” and “800” equidistant from the centerline on the full-rounded eye for suspension. The Cross is of multi-piece constructed with a blackened eggshell sheen iron core that is only rarely encountered by this maker. The obverse with a raised central mobile swastika surrounded by a ribbed border, forming the distinctive “#” effect on the ribbed inner portion of the frame adjacent to the swastika. The lower arm features the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm; the reverse with the original institution date “1813” in raised numbering on the lower arm. This Knight’s Cross measures 47.92 mm x 48.35 mm. It is accompanied by the Oakleaves to the Knight’s Cross (Eichenlaub zum Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes), in silver, being the second type notably from the considerable gap between the edge of the center leaf and the rib on the outer leaf. It features a crisp “900” mark for silver content, as well as a “21” Präsidialkanzlei number. It measures 21.08 mm x 20.16 mm, with a shortened neck ribbon, constructed of fine black-white-black vertically ribbed weaving. It is that of the shortened type, sewn onto black cotton strings with a clasps at the end with three adjustment hooks. Overall, this Knight’s Cross and Oakleaves depict attractive dark patina from age on the silver frame, as well as the recesses of the Oakleaves, with only minor signs of wear and with the paint on the core very well preserved. The ribbon is slightly soiled from wear, but without rips or stains, weighing 45.4 grams in total, and in overall near extremely fine condition. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity by Dietrich Maerz outlining the originality and war time production of the of the oak leaves.
