This is an extremely fine quality manufacture cased set of Kriegsmarine Fregattenkapitän epaulettes featured on page 148 in Volume 1 of John Angolia’s series on the Kriegsmarine; the base of the epaulettes is constructed of a metal-reinforced core, with a dark blue wool underside, padded middle, and an ornate upper, consisting of an intricate design of extremely thin golden aluminum bullion wire embroidery. The ridge of the epaulettes is constructed of matching gold coloured bullion that is densely wrapped around a fabric core to form wavy and straight rows of strings. The ridge is flanked by 16 mm wide silver tresse that is neatly folded around the corners of the shoulder piece, with a brass eyelet for attachment to the the uniform on the upper. The obverse further depicts a silvered fouled Kriegsmarine anchor insignia affixed to the padded upper and a single silvered rank pip. Around the ridge of the epaulettes are countless golden fringes that are sewn into the underside, and suspended by gravity. Both epaulettes appear to be extremely well preserved, and do not display any signs of age, wear, or damage. The carrying case of the epaulettes consists of a base that also acts as a stand for the epaulettes, and a lid. The exterior is constructed of heavy-grade cardstock with a black faux leather (leatherette) exterior. The interior is lined with turquoise paper, with a turquoise stand for the epaulettes glued onto the base, with two white cotton strings attached to the underside of the stand to tie the epaulettes into place to restrict movement during travel. The lid neatly fits over the epaulettes and is secured into place via an external black cotton strap and double-claw hook closure. An extremely high quality manufactured set of epaulettes in mint condition.
