A Mint Waffen-SS Mountain Troops/Gebirgsjäger Enlisted Man’s M43 Field Cap

This is a well preserved M43 Waffen-SS Gebirgsjäger Bergmütze, constructed of beautifully textured green wool exterior, with fold-down panels with squared scallops to the front and forward sides, covering the entire neck on the sides and rear when in use. When not in use, the panels are raised with their ends resting upon the visor, being joined together via two green bakelite buttons. The visor is reinforced with cardboard, and covered in matching green wool. Sewn in place on the left side is a SS-Gebirgstruppen cap Edelweiss flower, constructed of fine quality manufacture cotton, with four silvery/grey petals, a seven bulb yellow stamen, and dual silvery/grey leaves and stem. The embroidery is mounted on a black wool base, measuring 64 mm x 46 mm. Sewn in place in the front of the cap is a standard BeVo style SS cap trapezoid. constructed of machine woven grey and green threading in the shape of a standard SS eagle, and an SS Skull. Both insignia appear original to the cap and are machine-sewn to the outside fabric. The interior of the cap is lined with a dark khaki-coloured herringbone cotton twill that is stamped “56” for sizing, and “Schmid & Manner” on the inside of the crown. Overall, this cap measures approximately 250 mm x 160 mm, with a 16 cm interior diameter, in near mint condition.
