A Hero’s Death Certificate and Eastern Front Medal in Packet of Issue with Award Certificate to Konrad Mistelbachner

A collection of items to Obergefreiter (Corporal) Konrad Mistelbachner, consisting of a hero’s death certificate, and an Eastern Winter Campaign Medal in its packet of issue with award certificate.

A hero’s death notice, measuring 211x299mm, better than very fine condition with some scuffing and creasing. It states that Mistelbachner of the 13th Infantry Assault Company in Grenadier Regiment 948, true to his oath of allegiance, died a hero’s death in the fight for the freedom of Greater Germany, for Führer, nation, and fatherland. The document is dated to “in the East” on September 51944. It is signed in blue ink by a Lieutenant and Company Leader, his name is indecipherable. A “Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42” medal in its original packet of issue; in silvered and patinated zink; with a large national eagle on the obverse clutching a swastika (“Hakenkreuz”) and a leftward facing Stahlhelm on the top, with a horizontally oriented stick grenade; the reverse “Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42” (Winter Battle in the East 1941/42) in all capital letters with a crossed sword and laurel wreath on the bottom; on a loop for suspension (unmarked); with a period original ribbon; with its original paper packet of issue with “Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 (Ostmedaille)” printed in black lettering on the obverse, and with “L. Chr. Laner Nürnberg-Berlin” printed on the reverse; overall very fine condition. An award certificate, measuring 138x199mm, very fine condition with multiple folding creases and light scuffing. It states that Gefreiter (Lance Corporal) Mistelbachner was awarded the Eastern Front Medal on September 1, 1942. It is signed in green ink by a Captain, his name is indecipherable.
