Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Submarine Front Clasp, Gold Grade, by Schwerin
A textbook example of a mid-war period German Gold Grade “U-Boot-Frontspange”; in gilded zink; the obverse with a central laurel wreath, with a side profile of a submarine superimposed above two crossed swords, and with six laurel leaves on either side of the wreath; horizontal tapered pinback with a soldered-on hinge and a crimped round wire catch; maker marked “Schwerin, Berlin” and designer marked “Peekhaus” on the reverse; measuring 76.65 mm x 24.03 mm; weighing 18.9 grams; with approximately 50% of the original gilding still intact; in overall very fine condition.
