A textbook example of an mid-war manufacture German “Nahrkampfspange”; in silvered vaulted zink; the onverse with a national eagle and a bayonet and a hand grenade in the centerpiece, with sun rays emanating from the centre of the left and right sides, and with four oak leaves and two acorns on each side; the reverse plain, with a square magnetic backing plate; horizontal banjo style pin, with a barrel hinge and a flat wire catch on the reverse; measuring 96.34 mm x 25.75 mm; weighing 32.0 grams; of note are the 6 dotted stampings on the reverse, used by this maker to hold the magnetic backplate in its place; with approximately 80% of its original silver finish remaining; in overall better than very fine condition.
