A textbook example of a mint Kriegsmarine submarine badge; in gilded tombac; the obverse in the form of a horizontal oval laurel leaf wreath, with a national eagle placed atop of the badge clutching a mobile swastika and a submarine in the centre of the badge; in fire gilded tombac; the reverse plain, with a vertical slender banjo style pinback, a barrel hinge, and a round wire catch; maker marked “Schwerin, Berlin 68” on the reverse; measuring 47.80 mm x 38.81 mm; weighing 25.3 grams; accompanied by its packet of issue; constructed of paper, with “U-Boot Kriegsabzeichen” printed in black gothic letterin on the obverse; maker marked “Schwerin, Berlin” on the reverse; measuring 97 mm x 62 mm; overall mint condition.
