Germany, Luftwaffe. A Glider Pilot Badge, Dated 1944
In silvered zinc, consisting of an oak leaf wreath with a mobile swastika on the bottom of the wreath (of note is the die-flaw of the swastika that resulted in the right side of the swastika not being properly formed), and an eagle that was separately soldered onto the wreath (without rivets); vertical needle style pin with a barrel hinge and a flat wire catch; unmarked, but dated “1944” through hand etched numbers on the reverse, along with other inscriptions on the reverse of the eagle (illegible); measuring 55.86 mm x 52.97 mm; weighing 23.0 grams; with the majority of the original silver-wash still remaining; in overall better than very fine condition.
