Klasse” consisting of the cross, as well as its inner and outer boxes; the cross consisting of a silver cross pattée of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a silver ribbed border; the obverse with a raised central “W”, with the re-institution date “1914” in raised numbering on the lower arm, and the royal crown on the upper arm; the reverse with a pointy vertical pinback, barrel hinge and round wire catch; maker marked “K.O.” for “Königliches Münzamt Orden” on the reverse below the catch; measuring 43.15 mm x 43.12 mm; weighing 16.5 grams. Accompanied by its inner case of issue; constructed of heavy cardstock; with a textured black faux leather (leatherette) exterior; the exterior of the lid embossed with a silver outline of an Iron Cross 1914 First Class; lined interior lid; slotted medal bed; intact, but non-functional spring catch with stud release; partially severed interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 64 mm x 64 mm; with its outer box; constructed of cardstock; with a paper label reading “Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse” and “Nur von dem Beliehenen zu öffnen” (Only to be opened by the recipient) and dated “16.Jan.1918” in black gothic lettering; a complete set; with moderate to heavy chipping in the black paint of the core; in overall unissued condition.
