Bulgaria (Socialist Republic); Three-piece construction, silver gilt with red, light blue, yellow, green and black enamels, dated "1879-1979" on the reverse, 42 mm x 55.5 mm, original ribbon, mounted to a five-sided aluminum suspension with pinback, intact enamels, near mint. In its harshelled case of issue, city of Sofia coat-of-arms on the lid, recessed medal bed, one hinge missing its pin, case near extremely fine.

Footnote: Sofia became the capital of Bulgaria on April 3, 1879. The medal was instituted on April 2, 1979 and awarded to Bulgarian citizens and organizations who contributed to the developing of the city as its capital. It was also awarded to foreign citizens, for their achievements in establishing cooperation and brotherhood between Bulgaria and the Bulgarian capital with other countries and their cities.
