A fine and early example of a order of the German Eagle/Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler 3rd Grade/3. Stufe; Maltese Cross constructed in silver gilt with extremely well preserved white enamels, with four national eagles (Hoheitszeichen) applied separately between the arms of the cross; on loop for suspension with its period ribbon featuring a sewn on horizontal pinback; an unmarked example, but displaying the characteristics of an early Deschler manufacture; measuring 46.26 mm x 45.92 mm; weighing 33.6 grams. With a case of issue originally published in “International Militaria Collector” Volume 7, Number 2, on page 12. Constructed of heavy pressed paper, with a red faux leather (leatherette) exterior, embossed with a large golden national eagle on the outside of the lid; lined interior lid, embossed “Orden vom Deutschen Adler Verdienstkreuz 3. Stufe” in golden lettering; black recessed medal bed; functional front clasp for closure; perfectly intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 128 mm x 85 mm; with the majority of its original gilt finish remaining; in overall near mint condition.
