A Prussian Order of the Red Eagle Fourth Class (Preußische Rote Adlerorden IV. Klasse); silver cross pattée with four arms; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting a hand-painted Brandenburg crowned eagle; the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm III; marked “W” on the base for Wagner manufacture; measuring 38.70 (w) x 38.66 mm (h); on a laterally-pierced loop and a ring for suspension - the ring featuring a 50-Year Service Jubilee Clasp; suspended from a court-mounted medal bar; brass core; red wool backer; horizontal pinback; with a paper tag attached reading “Prussia Order of the Red Eagle IV Class with number 50” on the reverse; a fine example with lightly chipped enamels visible on the top left of the medallion with traces of previous period repair, and with and with attractive patina from age; in better than very fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
