A 1840s Period Prussian Order of the Red Eagle Fourth Class, 23rd Model 1830-54 (Preußische Rote Adlerorden IV. Klasse); silver cross pattée with four arms; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting a hand-painted Brandenburg crowned eagle; the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm III; an unmarked example; measuring 37.00 (w) x 37.28 mm (h); weighing 12.8 grams; on a laterally-pierced loop and a ring for suspension; suspended from a neatly folded period original lightly faded ribbon; measuring 27 mm (w) x 97 mm (l); a fine example with intact enamels, with only slight contact marks, and with attractive patina from age; extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
