An extremely well preserved example of a Prussian Order of the Red Eagle Third Class (Preußische Rote Adlerorden III. Klasse); gold cross pattée with four arms in white enamels; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting a hand-painted Brandenburg crowned eagle; the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm III; marked “H&S” for Humbert & Söhne manufacture between the arms; measuring 39.12 mm (w) x 43.25 mm (h); weighing 14.5 grams; on a laterally-pierced loop and a ring for suspension; suspended from a 28 mm wide period original ribbon; a fine example with perfectly intact enamels without cracks or chips; in overall near mint condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
