A fine example of a Bavarian Order of Military Merit Fourth Class with Swords; silver Maltese cross with blue, white, and black enamels; the obverse with a central black enameled medallion bearing a silver crowned cipher of King Ludwig III within a white enameled border in the form of a buckled belt with silver letters reading “Merenti” (Latin - “Merit”); the reverse with a central black enameled medallion bearing a silver crowned Bavarian lion within a white enameled border in the form of a buckled belt with silver numbers reading “1866”; suspended from a horizontally pierced ball suspension - marked “950” for silver content, and “W.C” for Weis & Co. manufacture; with its period original 34 mm wide ribbon; with a paper tag attached reading “Bavaria Order of Military Merit III class for Mil Officials” on the reverse; measuring 40.73 mm (w) x 40.74 mm (h); weighing 26.8 grams (with its ribbon); with the blue enamels lightly flaked on the obverse of the right arm; the enamels otherwise well preserved, with only light contact marks, in overall near extremely fine condition."
