A fine example of a Saxe-Weimar Order of the White Falcon Honour Cross (1853-1901) (Großherzoglich Sächsischer Hausorden vom Weißen Falken Ehrenkreuz 2. Klasse); a silver gilt cross pattée; with a silver gilt central medallion depicting a leftward-facing white enameled falcon (depicting old enamel repair that has yellowed over time); the reverse with a dark blue enameled medallion with “CA” and a royal crown in gilt; suspended from a horizontally-pierced ball, a loop, and suspended from a period original ribbon; measuring 34.34 mm x 34.27 mm; weighing 16.4 grams with its ribbon; the enamels extremely well preserved; in overall in near mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
