An 1830-51 issue Hesse-Kassel Houseorder of the Golden Lion Commander Cross (Hausorden vom Goldenen Löwen Bruststern zum Komturkreuz); a silver Maltese cross with vaulted cross arms; the obverse with a central blue enameled medallion bearing a gold crowned Hesse lion, surrounded by a silver gilt decorative ring; the reverse with a vertical pin and a functional hinge/catch assembly; the reverse maker marked “Kompff” on the reverse; measuring 63.09 mm x 62.98 mm; weighing 35.8 grams; attractive patina from age; in overall extremely fine condition.
