"A fine example of a 1909-1918 issue Reuß Silver Merit Medal with Swords to the Princely Honour Cross (Silberne Verdienstmedaille mit Schwertern zum Fürstlichen Reußischen Ehrenlreuz); a silver medal; the obverse with the royal monogram of Heinrich Reuß, with the Reuß royal crown directly above; the reverse inscribed “Für Verdienst” (For Merit) within an open-ended laurel wreath; on a loop for suspension, with crossed swords suspended from a loop at the top of the medal, with its period original ribbon; measuring 33.16 mm in diameter; weighing 17.9 grams; in overall extremely fine condition. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps.
