A fine example of an 1892-1918 issue Prussian Order of the Red Eagle Fourth Class (Preußische Roter Adlerorden IV. Klasse mit der Krone); a silver gilt cross pattée with four arms; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting a Brandenburg crowned eagle; the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm III; suspended from an enameled swivel royal crown, with a loop for suspension, with its period original ribbon; measuring 38.99 mm x 58.44 mm; weighing 18.9 grams; with all of the enamels exceptionally well preserved; with light patina from age; in overall near mint condition. Footnote: Only 38 of these examples were issued.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
