German, Luftwaffe. A Second Pattern Luftwaffe Dagger with Hanger

Item #G34044

$402
A fine example of a third reich period German complete 2nd pattern Luftwaffe dagger, with a 255 mm nickel-plated magnetic steel blade, with dull edges and having a semi-sharp lightly bent tip. The blade’s obverse and reverse ricasso are unmarked, depicting light to moderate scattered pitting on the blade, but otherwise retaining its crossgraining and glossy shine. The black leather washer at the crossguard junction has hardened but remains intact. The crossguard is constructed of cast aluminum, and is in the shape of an attacking eagle clutching a swastika in its talons., depicting light surface wear and contact marks. It features a pumpkin coloured celluloid grip with ten rows of twisted silvered wreap in the recessed of the ribbed grip without interrruption, but with a small chip in the celluloid at the top and the bottom of the grip. The grip has suffered fading on one side from sun exposure, thus having become slightly discoloured. The pommel is also constructed of aluminum, exhibiting a swastika with an oak leaf design. The scabbard is constructed of silvered metal (magnetic), with a traditional pebbled finish, crisp ball final, and with the throat retained by two mounted screws, and oak leaf bands with rings. It is accompanied by a pair of dagger hangers with straps in silver bullion, with grayish blue and gray embroidered uppers, black corduroy bajcs, aluminumg buckles, and a zink dagger hanger, marked DRGM (German - Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) on the reverse. A well preserved dagger in overall near extremely fine condition.
