Footnote: The Medal for Distinguished Service in International War was established on March 27, 1952 by decree number 812, awarded to military personnel for acts of bravery or meritorious acts during war or international conflict overseas, but has since been awarded only to military personnel who fought in the Korea War. It is awarded in two categories: The one award is the Iron Cross (Cruz de Hierro) for Korea, which is in the form of a darkened iron Padua cross with inset and beaded rim, which resembles the German Iron Cross. It can be awarded with a laurel device (palm) for distinguished valour, or without for merit or devotion to duty in action. The other award is the Bronze Star (Estrella de Bronce) for Korea. To date, the medal (in both formats) has only been authorized for the Korean Conflict. Additional awards are indicated by a bronze oak leaf mounted to the ribbon.
