Item #W4998
Silver with yellow, blue and red enamels, unmarked, obverse illustrating a soldier holding the Colombian flag atop a mountain, with a half-wreath of laurel leaves at the base of the medal, reverse illustrating the rampant lion sleeve insignia of the battalion, inscribed "BATTALION DE INFANTERIA COLOMBIA" above, with a raised tablet below inscribed over two lines "HONOR / AL DEBER COMPLIDO" (Honour / Mission Accomplished), 31.5 mm (w) x 32.5 mm (h), original ribbon suspended from a pinback hanger, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Infantry Battalion Medal (Medal of Honour for Mission Accomplished) was established on October 21, 1965 and issued to Colombian military personnel. A few extremely rare examples of the medal (estimated at fifty) were produced in Japan and reflect design variances, including the absence of the wreath at the base of the obverse.
