Germany. A Fine Early Quality German Eagle Order Second Class; Type 1 by Deschler

An extremely fine quality manufacture “Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler mit Schwerter”; multi-piece construction; a gilt silver Maltesian cross (marked “Silber” and “900” on the reverse), with extremely well preserved high quality manufacture white enamels; with four hand-carved national eagles, one between each of the four arms of the cross; with a vertical pinback, a barrel hinge, and a rounded catch; unmarked, but displaying the typcial manufacturing characteristics of an early Type I Deschler piece; measuring 48.31 mm x 48.91 mm; weighing 23.2 grams; with the enamels extremely well preserved; in overall virtually mint condition.
