Saxony-Altenburg. A 1915-1916 Bravery Medal

(Tapferkeitsmedaille); In bronze, the obverse with a cross with the Saxon Coat of Arms in the centre, along with the Saxon crown and “1914” within the top three arms of the cross; the reverse with the Royal Monogram of Ernst II, with a Saxon crown directly above; on loop for suspension; with a shortened period original ribbon; measuring 31.14 mm in diameter; weighing 12.7 grams; in overall extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
