Saxony. An 1898-1918 Albrecht Order Officer’s Cross with Swords by G.H. Osang of Dresden

c.1915. Albrechtsorden Offizierkreuz mit Schwertern. A silver gilt white enameled latin cross with a green enameled oak wreath and crossed swords between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion depicting a leftward facing bust of Herzog Albrecht, surrounded by a blue enameled ring, inscribed “Albertus Animous” (Latin - Albert the Mercyful), along with arabesques towards the bottom of the enameled ring, and with a Bavarian crown on the top arm of the cross; the reverse with an unmarked centerpiece, vertical pin with a functional hinge/catch assembly - the pin marked “Silber” (German - Silver); measuring 46.08 mm x 70.10 mm; weighing 33.7 grams; the enamels untouched, without chips or cracks of any kind; extremely fine. This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
