An example of fine quality manufacture c. 1916-17 issue Bavarian Pilot’s (Flugzeugführer) badge; in silver (marked “silber”); hallow construction; with very fine details; the obverse with a standard pilot’s badge motive within a wreath, with laurel leaves towards the left side of the wreath, and oak leaves towards the right side of the wreath, separated by a bow on the bottom of the wreath, ordained by the Bavarian crown at the top; the reverse with a vertical needle pinback with a barrel hinge and a round wire catch; maker marked “Karl Poellath, Schrobenhausen” on the reverse; measuring 44.57 mm (w) x 73.77 mm (h); weighing 23.8 grams; in virtually mint condition.
