An Imperial Austrian 100-Year (1809-1909) Tirol War of Independence medal; a silver round medal; the obverse with the rightward facing busts of Emperor Franz Josef and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I, circumscribed with their names and titles, as well as “1809” and “1909”; the reverse depicting an Austrian imperial eagle, circumscribed “Pugnis Acerbis Fidem probauit Tirolis”; with a silver hallmark “A” on the edge of the medal; on a loop for suspension from an incorrect replacement ribbon; measuring 44.92 mm in diameter 41.3 grams; with light contact marks from wear, in overall extremely fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
