A well preserved commemorative medal for the “return” of Memel to the Third Reich (March 22, 1938); in gilt bronze; the obverse with two raised male figures, the one on the right bearing the German flag in his left hand, with his right hand placed around the shoulders of the figure on the left, with broken chains around his right arm, with the German eagle directly below; the reverse with the date “Zur Erinnerung An Die Heimkehr Des Memellandes 22. März, 1939” centrally; on loop for suspension; with its period original ribbon; an unmarked example, but displaying typical manufacturing characteristics of a “Slanted G - Type 1” issue medal by Hauptmünzamt Berlin (Official Berlin Mint) - marked with their signature micro “H.C.” on the bottom of the reverse; measuring 32.25 mm in diameter; weighing 14.4 grams. By its original presentation case of issue; constructed of heavy card stock with a red faux leather (leatherette) exterior, with a golden national eagle embossed on the outside of the lid; functional spring catch with stud release; fully intact interior fabric hinge cover; functional exterior metal hinge; measuring 49 mm (w) x 102 mm (h); overall better than extremely fine condition.
