"Trommel-Sextant" manufactured by C. Plath, Hamburg, Kriegsmarine No. 3605, instrument no. 14427. This fine sextant is complete and extremely well marked, all mirrors and filters are complete, and the sighting telescope is intact and functional adjusting knob intact and made from Bakelite. Bottom scale is marked "C. Plath Hamburg" with maker's insignia, and swing arm includes a clear and bright German eagle as well as Kriegsmarine "M", and serial number 564. The fitted wooden box is original and although a section of the hindge is missing and a crack has formed on the lid, it is otherwise complete with all fabricated wooden locks and/or brackets absolutely functional. Importantly, it includes accessories as well as a detailed warrant certificate from Hamburg dated August 22nd 1940. With matching numbers, this instrument shows signs of period use and is very fine overall. Rare.
