1854-1879 Issue. (Preußische Rote Adlerorden IV. Klasse mit Schwertern) with screwed-in gold Swords; silver cross pattée with smooth arms; the obverse with a circular enameled medallion depicting an enameled Brandenburg crowned eagle; the reverse with the crowned cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm III; an unmarked example; measuring 37.63 mm (w) x 38.16 mm (h); weighing 14.1 grams; on a laterally-pierced loop and a ring for suspension; suspended from a replacement ribbon; with a paper tag attached reading “Prussia Order of the Red Eagle IV Class with swords 2nd award 1842-1847” on the reverse; with light contact marks but very fine.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
