Valdemars Zamelis was born on September 18, 1907 in the Latvian Carnikava district. He either volunteered or was forced to volunteer for service in the SS on July 20, 1944. Three units he belonged to at one time or another are mentioned in the Soldbuch. It contains a stamp with the Feldpost number 07032, which translated to Staff III and 9th to 12th Company of Latvian Border Patrol Regiment 2 (Police). Zamelis received his equipment from SS Grenadier Training and Replacement Brigade 15. On September 15, 1944 he joined the Latvian SS Volunteer Legion. Only one additional piece of information is stated: Zamelis spend three days in the SS military hospital of Riga between August 19 and August 22, 1944 due to an unspecified stomach and intestinal disease.
