1st Oval Type. Pre-1918. An impressive and large sash badge in silver gilt with hand etched boarder, centre with large white enameled background displaying gold insignia with red and white enamels, 55 mm (w) x 88.2 mm (h-inclusive of large horizontally pierced integral ball suspension), red enamel loss to reverse, on fine period sash. Star with an ornate silver star with a gilt centre ring displaying finely enameled white flowers with green leaves, centre insignia in gold with red and white enamels, flaming heart of excellent quality affixed by two prongs, reverse with pin assembly and two stays, measuring 72 mm (w) x 82.3 mm (h - inclusive of black enameled cross), both badge and star in accompanying case of issue, interior lid marked Sousa, missing medal bed, bound in red leather with gold embossing, set over all extremely fine.
