A well preserved and untouched example of a Silver Grade Close Combat Clasp (Nahkampfspange in Silber); constructed of silvered vaulted zink; the obverse with a national eagle and a bayonet and hand grenade in the centerpiece, with sun rays emanating from the centre of the left and right sides, and with four oak leaves and two acorns on each side; the reverse plain, with a square non-magnetic backing plate that is crimped to the clasp on four spots; horizontal banjo-style pinback with a barrel hinge and a flat wire catch on the reverse; marked “W.E. Peekhaus, Berlin” for the designer, and “C.E. Juncker, Berlin” for the maker - a textbook example of a type 1 clasp of this maker, with complete wings of the eagle; measuring 96.41 mm (w) x 25.56 mm (h); weighing 29.6 grams; with the silver finish nearly fully preserved, with light wear on the corners from period wear; in overall better than extremely fine condition.
