A well preserved example of a Life Saving Medal (Rettungsmedaille) of the Free City of Hamburg; a circular silver medal; the obverse depicting the Coat of Arms of Hamburg, inscribed below “Für Rettung aus Gefahr” (German - For Rescue from Danger), all circumscribed “Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg” (German - Free and Hanseatic City Hamburg) in Gothic lettering; the reverse depicting a kneeling man struggling to free himself from tentacles; on a loop for suspension from its correct replacement ribbon; measuring 36.80 mm in diameter; weighing 19.0 grams; slightly warped; in overall near extremely fine condition.
