An example of an 1815 issue Hanoverian Waterloo medal; consisting of a round silver medal suspended from a crimped suspension and a flat ribbon bar; the obverse depicting a rightward facing head of George IV, circumscribed “George Prinz Regent 1815”; the reverse inscribed “Waterloo Jun XVIII”, with a “Weapons Trophy “ above, a half laurel wreath on the bottom that is tied together by a ribbon, circumscribed “Hannoversche Tapferkeit” (German - Hanoverian Bravery); the edge of the medal marked “Soldat Wilhelm Druecke Grenadier Battailon Verden”; with two slightly shortened correct replacement ribbons; measuring 35.11 mm in diameter; weighing 28.7 grams; with contact marks throughout, but in overall better than very fine condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
