France, Vichy Government. A Croix De Guerre, 1939-1940

Item #EU14860

$135

In bronze, unmarked, "1939-1940" reverse, 38 mm (w) x 45.8 mm (h) inclusive of its ball suspension, original ribbon, surface wear evident on the arms at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock on both sides, near extremely fine.

Footnote: After the Fall of France, French troops were evacuated to Great Britain. Marshal Philippe Pétain authorized a War Cross (Croix de Guerre) on March 28, 1941, much like the same design as that instituted in 1915 and 1939, but with the reverse bearing the dates "1939-1940". The ribbon was green but with five narrow black stripes and black edges.
