1856-1918 Issue. (Friedrich Orden Komturkreuz); A hollow gold cross pattee with sun-rays between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion depicting a golden royal cipher of Friedrich, surrounded by a ring of blue enamels, inscribed “Gott und mein Recht” in gold capital lettering; the reverse visually the same; on a loop and double-loop suspension from its period original ribbon; an unmarked example, but known examples by Firma Eduard Foehr, Königlicher Hofjuwilier, Stuttgart” exist; measuring 54.19 mm (w) x 53.61 mm (h); weighing 33.3 grams; a light crack in the white enamels on the lower right section of the six o’clock arm, with a slight manufacturing error in the frame on the top left corner of the twelve o’clock arm; in overall near mint condition. With original case of issue, wooden framed wrapped in blue cloth with gold embossed detailing, interior in padded red silk with Württemberg coat of arms on interior lid, missing medal bed, fine.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
