1815-1918 issue. Civil Issue. (Großherzoglich Sächsischer Hausorden vom Weißen Falken Großkreuz für Zivilpersonen). A Gold Maltese cross with green enameled arms, and red enameled parallelograms between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a large leftward facing white enameled Falcon superimposed in the center; the reverse with a central gilt applique with bright blue enamels, inscribed “Viginando Ascendimus” (Latin - We rise through watchfulness) in gold lettering, with white enameled arms and green enameled parallelograms with white enameled tips; suspended from a swivel crown suspension, with a horizontally pierced ball and double interlocking loop; an unmarked example, however known pieces by Firma Th. Müller Hofjuwilier & Ordensfabrikant of Weimar exist; measuring 49.65 mm (w) x 82.32 mm (h); weighing 26.3 grams; with some period repairs to the white enamels on the falcon; on replacement full length sash, in overall near extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
