Of the highest quality and attention to detail, a large central silver gilt disc with a hand engraved boarder, with multi rayed star providing the background for a crowned Gold surround consisting of highly detailed red and black enamels, with a hand painted motif sitting lion with sun in bright colours, reverse with highly ornate hand engraving and Arabic script, well hallmarked on integral ring with Austrian silver quality mark for 900 silver (Used from 1872-1922), as well as maker mark VM for Vinc Mayer, (In operation from 1860-1918), with elongated ribbon loop double Assay marked A A denoting Vienna, measuring 51 mm (w) x 58 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring suspension), a beautiful example that remains better than extremely fine. In original case of issue, wooden framed, wrapped in leather, silk medal bed, interior lid embossed with V.Mayer, very fine.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
