1815-1918 Issue. (Großherzoglich Sächsischer Hausorden vom Weißen Falken Ritterkreuz 1. Klasse). A silver gilt Maltese cross with green enameled arms, with red enameled parallelograms and crossed silver gilt swords between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a large leftward facing white enameled Falcon superimposed in the centre; the reverse with a central gilt applique with blue enamels, inscribed “Vigilando Ascendimus” (Latin - We rise through watchfulness), with white enameled arms and green enameled parallelograms with white tips between the arms of the cross; suspended from a silver gilt swivel crown suspension, with a horizontally pierced ball and loop, and with its period original ribbon - with a collector’s paper tag attached to the reverse; marked “X” (unknown meaning) on the bottom of the six o’clock arm; measuring 37.62 mm (w) x 37.70 mm (h); weighing 27.2 grams; light wear to the gilt; in overall extremely fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
