Saxony. An Albrecht Order, Knight’s Cross, Second Class, with Swords, by G.A. Schaffenberg
(Albrechtsorden Ritterkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern). 1899-1918 Issue. A silver gilt Latin cross with white enameled arms, with crossed swords between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion depicting a leftward facing bust of Herzog Albrecht, surrounded by a broad blue enameled ring, inscribed “Albertus Animous” (Latin - Albert the Merciful), along with arabesques toward the bottom of the enameled ring; the reverse with a white enameled central medallion depicting the Saxon coat of arms, surrounded by a broad blue enameled ring with arabesques at the top, and “1850” on the bottom; on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon; marked “G” for “G.A. Schaffenberg” on the bottom of the six o’clock arm; measuring 36.09 mm (w) x 41.38 mm (h); weighing 18.8 grams; the central medallion and swords loose, but in otherwise extremely fine condition.
