Württemberg, Kingdom. An Order of the Crown, Knight’s Cross with Swords, c.1915 1870-1918 Issue.

(Orden der Württembergischen Krone Ritterkreuz mit Schwertern). A Maltese cross in silver gilt; the obverse with a circular central white enameled medallion with a silver gilt Württemberg crown, within a bed of white enamels, surrounded by a ring of red enamels with silver gilt lettering reading “Furchtlos un Trew” (German - Fearless and Loyal); the reverse with a circular central white enameled medallion, with a silver gilt crowned cipher of King Friedrich I within a bed of white enamels, surrounded by a ring of red enamels, inscribed “Furchtlos und Trew” as on the obverse, with crossed swords affixed to the top arm, suspended from a broad dual looped ring, from a shortened period original ribbon; unmarked; measuring 37.60 mm (w) x 47.84 mm (h); weighing 12.4 grams; in overall extremely fine condition.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
