(Orden der Eisernen Kronze Ordenszeichen III. Klasse). Multi-piece construction of bronze gilt, with red, green, white, and blue, and black enamels; consisting of a double-headed eagle with a shield on the chest of the eagle, consisting of blue enamels and the letter “F”, surrounded by a war decoration, consisting of an unusual small green enameled laurel wreath; along with a crown on the bottom of the award; the reverse of the eagle with a second shield, dated “1815”; on a loop for suspension - marked but illegible due to being an off-centre strike, “Wien” is legible’ with its period original tri-fold ribbon, featuring a small decoration of a I Class decoration; measuring 29.16 mm (w) x 57.18 mm (h); weighing 26.7 grams; in near mint condition.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
